ACoT Challenge Reward 1: A Community of Titans Post Mortem
It's been one week since the game was dropped into the digital realm, and well, It's got some traffic. In this first week, it didn't go as fast as I would have liked it to, it still got an amazing amount of downloads, looking to be about 17 currently. Based on my data, that's good for a one-page post.
So, I should mention why I made this game before I get too much into my thoughts on things with it. A month or two ago, I got a new video game called Amber Isle, in which you play as a new dinosaur on this island, and you take over the shop and try to help the island to become a wonderful place to live. It has a charming art style, and the mechanics are super fun, but it gave me the idea of "Why not have this concept as a Tabletop game", and well I did. It's as simple as that.
No one has said anything about whether they read it or liked it to me, but I do think there are a few things I am learning that I would like to share.
First and foremost, I do think if I spent more time and money to get the character sheets to be done in a more 'fancy' way, than just essentially the basics that I built for all one page PB & J sheets, then I might would have had a better time. But on the other hand, having a prebuilt character sheet for this one page, saved me hours of work, which honestly is nice. There is an obvious tradeoff, and if I had more resources, I think I could find and develop a healthy middle.
I do think releasing a game around thanksgiving, while meant I hit my goal of releasing the game in novemember, is part of what hurting the game. One of the key things to note always is when you release a game will help or hinder it, so you have to make sure that it is in the right time.
